WELCOME TO SPOOKY SEASON!

Greetings, all, and welcome to the October (2026) update for Roguelike Games!

Here at RLG, we're big fans of the Halloween season and of giving away goodies! In the past, we've run Halloween competitions and given away a spooky adventure as well as a half-dozen spooky plot hooks, maps and tokens you can use in any TTRPG.

This year, we're continuing the trend and offering up three ghastly new monsters for you to use in some of the most popular game systems!

Each of these monsters comes with a lore primer and stat blocks so you can use them in the following game systems:

Normally we would be giving you the regular updates on the progress of Moralinth: Uncanny Edition, Moralinth: Enclave Edition and The Imperial Encyclopaedia Estania as we have been doing continually throughout the year, but October is a special month where creepy takes priority over roadmaps! That said, check the end of this blog for an important update on The Imperial Encyclopaedia Estania...

So let's get monstrous and meet the Halloween gallery of horrors!

HORROR 1: The Echotether

THE ECHOTETHER

The Echotether, also known in some cultures as The Chime-Tether, is a formidable predator inhabiting the white noise of dark, abandoned ruins. It expertly lurks on the periphery, preying on its victim's ability to trust their own senses by weaponising acoustic mimicry with its strange, alien-like emissions.

This creature presents a spindly, spider-like silhouette crafted entirely from coiled, silver wires and rusted brass tuning forks. Its limbs terminate in needle-sharp prongs that resonate with low vibrations. Lacking eyes, its torso features a large, hollow ribcage adorned with delicate glass bells that softly chime upon sensing fear.

In the hunt, the creature skillfully anchors itself to a victim's shadow or coat hem using microscopic, silver thread-like tendrils. Once "tethered," it begins echoing the victim's footsteps, breathing, and spoken thoughts back to them, with a slight delay and pitch alteration. Over time, these echoes transform into the voices of loved ones, pleading for help from total darkness. The victim is gradually drawn away from their companions or led off precipices, frantically pursuing sound cues that seem to originate just behind their own ears.

HORROR 2: The Unremembered

The Un-Remembered

The Un-Remembered are entities born from places where catastrophic memory loss or erased histories occurred. They exist on the very fringe of reality, existing as physical anomalies that feed not on flesh or blood, but on the conceptual presence of a living being in the minds of others. They resemble tall, silhouette-like humanoids made of flickering grey static, as if a piece of the world's visual fabric failed to exist. Their edges are blurrily out of focus regardless of how hard one tries to look at them, and their faces are a soft, concave depression lined with faint, glowing white glyphs that constantly rewrite themselves.

An Un-Remembered confidently stalks its target from a distance, never initiating a physical attack at first. As it approaches, the victim gradually fades from the memories of their companions, friends, and family. A close friend will look at the victim and suddenly have no recollection of who they are, why they are travelling together, or even what that person's name is. Written records, journal entries, and portraits of the victim transform into blank parchment. Once the victim is entirely erased from the memory of every living soul who ever knew them, their physical body becomes intangible and disintegrates into a pile of pale ash—leaving behind only a hollow clothes-pile that no one recalls placing there.

HORROR 3: The Red Scrapsmith

(A.k.a: The Butcher of the Threshold)

The Red Scrapsmith

Also sometimes called "The Butchers of the Threshold", The Red Scrapsmiths are terrifying entities that inhabit abandoned warzones and ruined battlements. They are obsessed with physical durability, constantly rebuilding their own bodies out of flesh, bone, and iron, scavenging from those they slaughter. They are legendary for surviving decapitation, disembowelment, and immolation—simply stitching themselves back together mid-fight using fresh parts from their victims.

An appalling amalgam of muscle, iron wire, and stitched hides, standing nearly nine feet tall. Its body is a grotesque tapestry of mismatched limbs—some pale and human, others dark, scaly, or wrapped in heavy iron bands. Its "face" is a crude leather executioner's hood stapled directly to its neck muscles, with twin black eyes glowing through jagged, hand-cut eyeholes. It carries an array of rusted butchering tools, hooks, and heavy iron hammers slung across its waist on thick butcher’s chains.

The Scrapsmith is a hulking juggernaut of bloody violence. It stalks its prey with agonising, relentless slowness, dragging a massive, notched cleaver or executioner’s hook across the stone floor, which emits the skin-crawling sound of metal scraping across metal. What makes a Scrapsmith terrifying is its violent durability. Cutting off an arm doesn't stop it—it immediately grabs a fallen victim's arm (or a piece of rusty debris) and jams it into the open socket, where bone and sinew instantly fuse with a sickening wet crunch. Blasting away half its torso only reveals more coiled metal wire and rot-hardened muscle beneath. It absorbs the physical force of incoming blows, growing larger and more gory as the fight wears on.

A Red Scrapsmith hunts by cornering prey, using its crushing physical strength to pin victims down before slowly and brutally butchering them to harvest their best structural bones.

The Imperial Encyclopaedia Estania - Important Update

Art by Adam Donovan, Roguelike Games

After a critical look at The Imperial Encyclopaedia Estania, we realised during the editorial process that some content didn't really belong in an encyclopaedia. In essence, the book needs to cover the eighteen nations of The Known World from an "in-universe" perspective, meaning a lot of the information was frankly unnecessary.

As such, we've decided to cut the following Chapters from the book:

  • (Chapter 12) Science & Technology

  • (Chapter 13) Religion & Belief

  • (Chapter 14) The Occult

  • (Chapter 15) Factions of The Known World

  • (Chapter 16) The Blight

All of the removed chapters are covered in the Moralinth: Uncanny Edition and Moralinth: Enclave Edition core rulebooks anyway, so cutting them from the encyclopaedia means no real loss of content. What it does mean, however, is that the final product is more concise in its delivery and should—in theory—be finished sooner! Going forward (starting in November 2026), the update format will remain, but the contents will change to the following:

  • Chapter 1 - The World of Moralinth

  • Chapter 2 - The Estanian Empire

  • Chapter 3 - Estani, The Imperial Core

  • Chapter 4 - Teradova, The Northern Frontier

  • Chapter 5 - Allua, The Eastern Kingdoms

  • Chapter 6 - Ezia, The Southern Holdings

  • Chapter 7 - Missirea, The Western Realms

  • Chapter 8 - The Outer Colonies

  • Chapter 9 - Beyond The Known World

  • Glossary & Index

Rest assured that this newly formatted book is still a substantial product, coming in at close to 200 pages, and will give Narrators and Players alike plenty of information on the various nations and peoples of the continent!

The Roadmap will also be updated to reflect this new format.

Roguelike Community

FACEBOOK

The Moralinth Official Facebook Group is the place to visit for quick and concise updates for those who only want the summarised details of what is happening with Moralinth, and is a great place to see the artwork, lore snippets, and updates. We're looking to add more to it so that we can add extra information, but we need your help! What sort of things would you like to see included in the Facebook Group that aren't there already? Feel free to leave comments so we can know what a priority for everyone is, and make sure you tell your friends!

DISCORD:

For a more in-depth and interactive playground for all things Moralinth, you can head over to the Morlainth Official Discord Server. We're looking to foster the community and grow it out, and a few of the messages we've received of late have asked for more ways to interact with the game world, as well as an increase in setting information. We're looking to try and grant both requests simultaneously, so keep an eye on Discord for more information! Feel free to invite anyone who you feel might want to follow the project, but please remember they need to verify their account when they first join the server (you need to click the little "tick" to be granted the Uncanny role and gain access to all the Categories, Channels and Events).

Future Plans

Next month, we'll return to our usual 2026 format, updating the progress of the two Moralinth core rulebooks and the Encyclopaedia. The November update will be the final update for the year, as RLG works on a reduced work pattern over December.

....and that wraps up our update for this month! Feel free to drop us a message or come visit us on our Facebook page or our Discord Group if you'd like! Until our next update,

Happy Gaming!
