[September 2023]

Greetings all, and welcome to the September (2023) update for Roguelike Games!

This is without a doubt, going to be the shortest blog update of 2023! The reason for this is two-fold, but it equates to not a huge amount of information that can shared here today.

First off, Moralinth Gothic Horror RPG written across two game systems (referred to as the Uncanny Edition and the Gloom Edition) is in a bit of a strange place, design-wise. The Uncanny edition of the game is now fully written as a 1st draft and is in the process of being edited and polished. In contrast, the Gloom Edition is nearer the beginning of its development cycle, with a lot of the mechanics being nailed down and finalized. There is a lot going on, but most of it is the groundwork of adjusting finer details and, while important for the project, doesn't constitute enough to put up here as an actual update.

The second reason is that I've spent most of this month in and out of hospital! While nothing that kept me down for too long, it obviously had an impact on how much work could be done on the game(s) this month. I'm back to it now though, so expect a more regularly-sized update for October.

Moralinth: Website Update

As had been alluded to in the past, the writers here at RLG were reluctant to put too much hard work into the Gloom Edition until we were 100% sure which game system we were going to use. In the past, we've had to write it in two systems neither of which could be used for one reason or another, and a painfully large amount of work was essentially wasted. With the excellent news that came about with the O.R.C. License, we've since announced that the Gloom Edition of Moralinth will be using a Pathfinder-compatible version of the d20 ruleset, and we've now updated the relevant section of the Website which you can find by navigating to it from the main page or following THIS LINK. This update brings the Gloom section up to the same level of information as its Uncanny counterpart - something we've been wanting to do for a while! This allows us to look toward adding new information to both these sections and to make sure they marry up correctly: while both editions of the game run on different systems, they share many important features, lore, and sections that need to be highlighted on the website.

Along with the Facebook page and Discord channel, the website represents a place to find information on the game at a glance, and we're looking to update it to reflect that. For example, the Species Spotlights that have been sent out in the past will find a new permanent home here on the website. You can expect to see more coming thick and fast with each monthly update!

Roguelike Community

FACEBOOK

The Moralinth Official Facebook Group is the place to visit for quick and concise updates for those who only want the summarised details of what is happening with Moralinth and is a great place to see the artwork, lore snippets, and updates. We're looking to add more to it so that we can add extra information, but we need your help! What sort of things would you like to see included in the Facebook Group that isn't there already? Feel free to leave comments so we can know what is a priority for everyone - and make sure you tell your friends!

DISCORD:

For a more in-depth and interactive playground for all things Moralinth, you can head over to the Morlainth Official Discord Server. We're looking to foster the community and grow it out, and a few of the messages we've received of late have asked for more ways to interact with the game world as well as an increase in setting information. We're looking to try and grant both requests simultaneously, so keep an eye on Discord for more information! Feel free to invite anyone who you feel might want to follow the project but please remember they need to verify their account when they first join the server (you need to click the little "tick" to be granted the Uncanny role and gain access to all the Categories, Channels and Events).

Future Plans

Work has already resumed at the normal pace since a very strange September here at RLG! Going forward expect to see the usual level of information and updates coming back for the October update, and who knows? maybe something a lil' spooky ;)

....and that wraps up our update for this month! Feel free to drop us a message or come visit us on our Facebook page or our Discord Group if you'd like! Until our next update,

Happy Gaming!

- Adam
