[March 2023]

Greetings all, and welcome to the March (2023) update for Roguelike Games!

This month it has been full-steam ahead on the writing front for Moralinth, and a huge amount of work has been accomplished (well over 300 pages worth). Being such a focused task for this month, it means that the writing will cover the bulk of this update. That said, there are some other interesting tidbits we'd like to share with you, and just like the last two updates of this year we'll be sticking to the established format so you can see what we've been working on here at RLG.

Let's get rolling!

Moralinth Updates:

Much like February, this month the onus with the Moralinth: Gothic Horror RPG has mostly centered around the Uncanny Edition of the game, which has been coming along tremendously. So much has been written in the last month in fact, that it makes sense that a roadmap showing a visual representation of work done (and work still left to do before crowdfunding) will do wonders toward showing the overall progress. With that in mind, we'll be looking to add a Moralinth Roadmap starting in April (2023) that will show the progress with the Uncanny and Gloom editions of the rulebooks, the Moralinth Worldbook, and the Uncanny and Gloom Edition Quickstarts.

Keep an eye out for that next month!

Moralinth: Uncanny Edition

A massive amount of writing has been done on the Uncanny Edition of Moralinth this month, well over three-hundred pages worth covering six chapters. New rules have been added, the Non-Player Character and Creatures of Darkness sections have been completed as well as a plethora of new information for Narrators to use in their games. New cyphers, artefacts, and options for Dark Passengers have been included as well as new editorial work and layout changes throughout the book.

To say the Uncanny Edition is coming along leaps and bounds would be a bit of an understatement! Currently, at almost 700 pages and still with two whole sections and several chapters to go (before art and tables are added), it's certainly not going to be a small book!

Moralinth: Gloom Edition

As of writing this, the world is still waiting on the official release of the Open RPG Creative License, and as such the amount of work that can be done on the Gloom Edition is limited. We don't want to invest too heavily in its production until we know the limitations of this new license, even if we strongly believe it will be a much better and user-friendly agreement than the current OGL. Having been burned on this before and losing almost seven months' worth of work, we're loathed to move ahead in earnest until we know exactly what we can and can't do under the new license.

That said, there is a lot of preparatory work going on behind the scenes such as writing and balancing Ancestries, Heritages, and Classes to make sure they fit with the Moralinth aesthetic while still remaining true to the ruleset of Pathfinder: Second Edition.

Moralinth Worldbook

No new written work has been done on the Moralinth Worldbook this month, instead, the workflow has been directed more toward layout and art. With the majority of the written work done, it is progressing toward the point where it can be sent for editing and proofreading.

Moralinth Quickstarts

With all the writing, maps, and tables completed for the Uncanny Edition of the Quickstart, work has begun on producing the art to go with the product. The draft version has gone to internal play-testing to provide feedback on any changes that might need to be made. We're not at the external playtest stage yet, but when that happens we'll update you here.

Roguelike Community

FACEBOOK & DISCORD: Full disclosure: with the amount we've been concentrating on getting the writing for the Uncanny Edition completed, we've not had as much time as we would have liked to set up and prepare the Facebook Group and Discord for Moralinth. We regret to inform this will be pushed back to April (2023), but this does mean we'll be able to start them both with more information for people to discuss and share. In addition to this, we'll also be starting a Moralinth (product) page on Facebook to go alongside the company's Facebook page for Roguelike Games.

TWITTER: After some consideration, we've decided to hold off the launch of our presence on Twitter until Facebook and Discord are up and running. Due to the short, headline-style format that the Twitter platform employs, we'd like to be able to have a satisfactory amount of content online for these posts to reference.

Future Plans

Through the end of March and likely the entirety of April, the focus will remain on the Uncanny Edition of the Moralinth Core Rulebook. With it being so close to (draft 0) complete, we're wanting to make sure that the major milestone is concluded before moving on to anything else. Due to the fact the Uncanny Quickstart Guide has been worked on in tandem, that is extremely close to being finished as well.

Beyond that, April will see the release of the Moralinth Facebook Group and Moralinth Facebook Page, as well as the Moralinth Discord. The Roguelike Games Facebook Page will still send out updates of course, but for those people interested in following the progress of Moralinth specifically, they'll have some more content-focused areas to keep an eye on! Lastly, we're looking to implement a roadmap showing Moralinth's progress which will be updated each month and likely have its own section on this website.

....and that wraps up our update for this month! Feel free to drop us a message or come visit us on our Facebook page if you'd like! Until our next update,

Happy Gaming! - Adam
